Twisted Roots
A story about the diffi culty of accepting traditions and heritage. Mikko, 56, has been diagnosed with a hereditary illness a few years ago. He hasn’t been able to deal with it or discuss it with his family. When Mikko’s condition takes a turn for the worse, his wife Mirjami, 45, decides it’s time to tell the children. But this isn’t the only thing troubling Mirjami. She fi nds out that her brother hasn’t been paying off his debt, and as guarantors for his loan, she and her husband are now liable for it. But Mirjami doesn’t think Mikko is strong enough to handle the truth: they are in danger of losing their home because of the loan.
Sakari, 33, Mikko’s son from his previous marriage, has lived abroad for years. He has literally run away from his dad and his demands of taking over the family business. Pihla, 15, wants to start living an independent life and move into a nearby commune with friends. Lumi, 7, who has been adopted from China, is enjoying family life but starts her own secret journey to fi nd her roots.
