Cell 211

In order to make a good impression at his new job as a prison warden, Juan Oliver visits the facility on the day before he’s supposed to start, to get a tour and introduce himself to his new colleagues. Wrong time and place, as Juan becomes injured when a piece of wall comes tumbling down the ramshackle building. His soon-to-be colleagues put him to rest in the empty cell 211, but before they can return with medical support, there’s the outbreak of a severe prison riot.

In “Cell 211,” it is actually impossible to anticipate what will happen. The story follows no established formula. It discourages attempts at anticipation. It unfolds convincingly at every stage, but unpredictably. As Juan faces more stringent tests, he continues to improvise, sometimes devising masterstrokes.
