Dream Home

Social commentary and the slasher genre make for interesting bedfellows in Dream Home, director Pang Ho-cheung’s blood-spattered look at the excesses of the Hong Kong housing market.

Although the film makes its point with regard to runaway prices and the squeezing of the middle class, Dream Home’s outlandishly staged murder sequences and scenes of bodily mutilation tilt it decidedly into genre territory.

– Darcy Paquet, Screen Daily

Dream Home may look like just another slasher flick, with all the blood, gore, and paper-thin characters you'd expect, but it's actually a film with an important social message! See, it seeks to expose how the subprime mortgage crisis is affecting people's lives all over the globe. No, that's not a joke. It's very concerned by the problem, which is prevalent even in Hong Kong, where tiny apartments regularly cost more than the average salary can afford.
