Spotlight Selection 2010 / Director: Gregg Araki
Kaboom
Gregg Araki’s marvelously mad movie Kaboom has ‘cult classic’ written all over it, and with its delirious mix of teen sex (gay, lesbian and straight), drugs and loopy conspiracies, it’s a real audience pleaser.
– Mark Adams, Screen International
A campus comedy romp in which polysexual, zonked-out kids play experimental mix-and-match before discovering a plot to destroy the world, pic revisits the nihilistic hedonism of Araki´s mid-90´s films, but this time with a welcome dose of stylistic restraint, drier wit and – dare it be said of material featuring auto-fellatio and someone being stabbed in the head – maturity.
– Leslie Felperin, Variety
