Humpday
NB! Additional Screening Saturday 26th Sep at 11pm, Kino Engel 1 & 2
One of the best indie films of the year, ”Humpday” is a lighter descendant of ”sex lies and videotape”, yet burrows just as deep into the male psyche and the human capacity for selfdeceit. Ben (Mark Duplass) is a Seattle careerist planning to have a baby with wife Anna (Alycia Delmore). Hipster artist Andrew (Joshua Leonard) is a free-spirited college pal of Ben’s who arrives unannounced and crashes on his couch.
A drunken party conversation spurs Andrew’s idea to make an amateur porn flick in which the two straight friends will have sex. The dare escalates until Andrew and Ben must confront what exactly it means to them. Writer-director Lynn Shelton’s film is casually funny, but its strengths are its smarts, its pitch-perfect performances and a fearlessness about every attribute of personality.
