Saara Saarela’s film TWISTED ROOTS (Väärät juuret) is the Finnish Film Gala selection of the 22nd Helsinki International Film Festival – Love & Anarchy. The festival takes place in Helsinki from 17.-27. September, 2009.

Also confirmed to the festival programme are the jewels of new Japanese film, Hayao Miyazaki’s PONYO ON THE CLIFF, Takashi Miike’s YATTERMAN, Hirokazu Koreeda’s STILL WALKING and Ryosuke Hashiguchi’s ALL AROUND US. Other titles include IL DIVO, Paolo Sorrentino’s satiric portrait of Italia’s former prime minister, Giulio Andreotti. A YEAR AGO IN WINTER and JERICHOW are strong German films in the spirit of THE LIVES OF OTHERS and THE DOWNFALL. Gabe Ibáñez’s HIERRO continues the victorious
path of Spanish horror and fantasy films. English speaking films that have been confirmed for the festival programme include KILL KILL, FASTER FASTER, a film noir pastiche directed by Gareth Maxwell Roberts and MY WINNPEG is a personal declaration of love to his home town by the Canadian eccentric, Guy Maddin.

Scandinavian films confirmed to the programme are HEAVEN’S HEART, the Guldbagge prize winning emotional drama by the Swedish filmmaker Simon Staho. Norwegian Rune Denstad Langlo’s NORTH is a road movie, where a reluctant snow sleigh trek is made through arctic Norway – with the power of booze.

As usual, Love & Anarchy will present the best films from all around the world, including a selection of indie productions, Bollywood spectacles and new films from Eastern Europe and South America.

For the second time, Love & Anarchy will award the Finnkino audience Prize. The nominees will be announced later, together with the other films confirmed to the festival programme.
