Griff the Invisible
Though it may come dressed in superhero trappings, Griff is instead a rather delicate meditation on love and what it is to be different – and the tightrope between encouraging difference and ignoring mental illness.
Griff (Ryan Kwanten) is a shy, ineffectual office worker. Every day he trudges to work, where he is laid into by the office bully, Tony.
In his spare time, however, he becomes Griff The Invisible, who takes out the trash around the city streets at night. Or rather, tries to take out the trash: the local residents are more concerned that a masked vigilante seems to be running wild.
Griff's sole friend is his brother, Tim, who is concerned that Griff is headed downhill. Tim also has a new girlfriend, who he met at a Chinese restaurant, Melody (Maeve Dermody). Melody is a bit 'different', too – she spends her time in her girlish bedroom, trying to pass through walls and studying physics. (...) Melody is captivated by Griff, and sets about attempting to help him up his superhero game. She sends him schematics to make a set of armour that will turn him invisible.
(...) As an exploration of the collision between dreams and delusions, between loneliness and love, it's wonderful. As Melody might say, it gets in your bubble.
